Here’s something you won’t find on our homepage: a long list of “Top Stories” of the day.

That’s because we don’t report what you already know. You can (and do) get that stuff from a ton of different sources that have well-oiled 24-hour news cycles, and we know our resources are better spent providing journalism that you can’t get from anywhere else.

What we do best is produce investigative journalism that’s well-researched, nonpartisan, fact-checked and devoted to revealing what’s going on behind the scenes with our elected officials, government institutions, big corporations and more. There’s no shortage of issues that badly need the kind of attention we can provide, from our new documentary with Frontline about the origins of The Big Lie, to exposing how our food safety system has failed to protect us from deadly salmonella outbreaks, to investigating New York state’s fraught plan to reduce overreliance on hospitals for children suffering mental health emergencies. These are only a few of the sweeping investigations we’ve published lately.

The work we do is time-consuming and expensive, and most newspapers simply cannot sustain it.
