Friend – I served in the Orlando Police Department for 27 years, when it wasn't ordinary to see a woman on the force – let alone a Black woman.
But my mom taught me as a kid: "Never tire of doing good," so I persisted and became the first woman to lead as chief of police.

Today, I’m running for the U.S. Senate with the same persistence that has driven me since I was young: Never tire. I'm neck and neck with Marco Rubio, and the GOP is spending millions to defeat me, but I'll never tire of putting the work in for Floridians.
This isn't going to be an easy race: Senate races in Florida never are. But with Senate control and our democracy on the line, we have to go all in and compete everywhere.
