This climate crisis isn’t going away, and our community here in the First District will continue to pay the price until we take bold action. That’s why, tonight, I’m proud to stand with the dynamic young leaders at the Sunrise Movement and sign a pledge to support the Green New Deal.

These young people—who have led strikes and held our leaders accountable—are the future. And they know exactly how at-risk that future is. If we want a climate solution that works for the long haul, politicians must bring more youthful and visionary voices to the table.

When the folks at the Sunrise Movement asked me to stand with them, I didn’t hesitate for a second. Here in Western Mass, climate consequences are coming home to roost—be it the displacement of our Puerto Rican neighbors by Hurricane Maria, or the temperature fluctuations threatening our elderly residents.

Signing this pledge reaffirms my commitment to protecting the health and wellbeing of First District families, with no exceptions and no delays.
