Dear John,
I wanted to provide you with an update on how our advocacy is drawing overdue Congressional attention to the dire medical conditions in immigration detention centers.
Last month, we demanded an investigation into the inadequate medical conditions at an immigration detention center in Aurora, Colorado , [[link removed]] with the goal of reducing unconscionable suffering of individuals detained there.
Now, Congressional oversight and accountability are increasing for this detention center:

However, access to critical medical and mental health care in the Colorado detention facility and nationwide will remain inadequate until Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) requires its contract facilities to comply with the agency’s own detention standards.
We must remain vigilant to prevent unnecessary suffering and preventable deaths in ICE custody.
Sincerely,
