John,
Yesterday, Dwight proudly voted the Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement (MORE) Act through the House.
The MORE Act treats cannabis legalization like the racial and economic justice issue it is. It will eliminate criminal penalties tied to marijuana and establish a process to expunge previous convictions from people's criminal records. It also includes Dwight's Homegrown Act which ensures small businesses and communities of color are able to share in the success of the booming cannabis industry.
This bill is a huge step forward in ending the failed "war on drugs" that contributed to institutionalized racism and the criminal justice epidemic. More than legalization, the MORE Act is about racial equality, economic justice, and ensuring local neighborhoods can participate in the profitable industry as well.
Now, it's on the Senate to move this legislation forward. If you're with Dwight to legalize marijuana, add your name today.
Thank you,
Team Evans
