Dear John,

Thousands of AFSC supporters have joined in urging the Biden administration to restore the right to claim asylum. On Friday, President Biden announced that Title 42, a Trump-era policy that has blocked migrants seeking asylum in the U.S. since 2020, will end in May. This is a vital step forward. Thank you to all who took action! Now we need to make sure asylum-seekers are supported, not detained when they enter the U.S. Read more [link removed] .

We also want to thank everyone who donated in March to help us meet our fundraising goal. More than 600 people renewed or made a gift for the first time. We deeply appreciate your support.

Here are this week's picks to inform and support your activism:

Join our week of virtual workshops (Apr. 4 – 6, 2 p.m. & 7 p.m. ET/ 11 a.m. & 2 p.m. PT): [link removed] This week, AFSC staff and partners from around the world are leading workshops on the theme of Quaker action for a just world. All are welcome to join! Learn about restorative justice, work in Palestine, climate justice, organizing strategy, and more.

Our North Star: A vision for community safety beyond prisons and policing: [link removed] Today over 1.8 million people are locked away in the U.S., more per capita than any other country. But we still have high rates of violence. It’s time to do something different. AFSC has identified seven guideposts on the path toward abolition. Together, they light the way forward, serving as our “North Star.”

Tell Congress: Cut the Pentagon budget and invest in our communities!: [link removed] This week, President Biden proposed a budget of about $813,000,000,000 for military spending and nuclear weapons. This is an increase of about $31,000,000,000 over this year's budget. Please join us in urging Congress to deliver better health care, schools, and jobs—not more money for weapons, war, and corporate defense contractors.

As global horror unfolds in Ukraine, why Is war still legal?: [link removed] “While a world without war may seem unthinkable in our current political context, we sell ourselves short if we refuse to imagine it and demand it,” writes AFSC’s Aura Kanegis. (Common Dreams)
