Weeks ago, the families of Sandy Hook victims settled a lawsuit against Remington, the gun manufacturer that made the AR-15-style rifle used to kill 26 adults and children in 2012. Remington settled with the families for $73 million — but no amount of money will bring back the loved ones they lost.
This landmark victory is the latest in a series of legal victories that are holding gun manufacturers accountable regardless of the unjust protections of PLCAA — the deadly law that has been interpreted to protect members of the firearm industry from being held liable for crimes committed with their products. March 30 marked 41 years since our namesake, Jim Brady, was shot and grievously injured in the attempted assassination of President Reagan. Turning pain into progress, Jim refused to let this tragedy define his life. Along with his loving wife, Sarah, Jim led the fight to pass the bipartisan Brady Bill, establishing the Brady Background Check System — our nation's first background check system for gun sales.

Brady Illinois Takes Action Against “Ghost Guns” |
In recent years, homemade, untraceable “ghost guns” have proliferated throughout Illinois and cities like Chicago, contributing to the alarming rate of trafficked firearms into Black and Brown communities. Prohibited purchasers — like gun traffickers — purchase and spread ghost guns because they’re extremely easy to access: a Brady Background Check is NOT required to buy one.
This week, Brady's Combating Crime Guns Manager Anneliese Dickman joined Illinois Assembly Member Kambium Buckner and advocates to introduce landmark legislation to combat the spread of ghost guns. If passed and signed into law, Illinois would effectively ban the parts and kits used to assemble these deadly weapons. We thank Assembly Member Buckner for his bold leadership on ghost guns, and we call on the Illinois General Assembly to pass this bill without delay!

Episode 178 — What You Need to Know About Gun Violence Against Unhoused Populations
In March, a man was accused of shooting five unhoused people in Washington, D.C., and New York City. The story made national headlines, but left questions about how violence — and more specifically gun violence — impacts people experiencing homelessness.
This week, Red, Blue, and Brady is joined by three experts to discuss both how gun violence can lead to homelessness, and how those experiencing homelessness are further victimized by gun violence, including the Executive Director of the National Coalition for the Homeless Mr. Donald Whitehead, University of Missouri Associate Professor of Social Work Dr. Hsun-Ta Hsu, and Team ENOUGH Executive Council member and Federal Policy Associate at March For Our Lives Isabella D'Alacio.

Last week, Brady California and Team ENOUGH hosted their first virtual Gun Violence Prevention Advocacy Week, where grassroots activists from across the state met with legislators in support of life-saving gun violence prevention legislation.
We were joined by our fantastic state and local partners, including Women Against Gun Violence, United Playaz, Youth ALIVE!, Mothers in Charge, Healing 4 Our Families and Our Nation, and San Diegans For Gun Violence Prevention. In just one week, we had over 100 activists meet with the offices of 28 legislators on both sides of the aisle, helping gain support for our priority gun safety bills!
