We praise God that the House of Lords has just rejected another attempt to introduce assisted suicide in England and Wales. But in recent days the ‘emergency’ DIY home abortion scheme in England was made permanent. There are many other urgent matters for prayer, not least Ukraine.

THOSE IN AUTHORITY

The Apostle Paul urges us “first of all” to pray and give thanks...

for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness”. 1 TIMOTHY 2:2

Please pray:

  • For integrity and wisdom for the Prime Minister and all those in national and local government;
  • That parliamentarians and assembly members will promote what is good and restrain evil;
  • That believers working in public service will act as salt and light;
  • For God to raise up more leaders in our national life who follow Christ.

ONLINE SAFETY BILL

Mainstream Christian beliefs must not be subjected to online censorship.

“Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.1 PETER 3:15b

Please pray:

  • Giving thanks that action is being taken to clamp down on content promoting violence, drugs, self-harm and suicide, and to prevent children from accessing online pornography;
  • That the Bill will be limited to tackling genuinely harmful activity and will include a presumption of free speech;
  • That whatever you can say in public on ‘the street’ will also remain free to say online.

SANCTITY OF LIFE

Human life is precious, not because of our ‘quality of life’, or our gifts and abilities, but because we are made in God’s image.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” PSALM 139:14

Please pray:

  • That the attempts to legalise assisted suicide will fail;
  • Pray for women and the unborn in England and Wales after the unsupervised home abortion schemes were made permanent;
  • Giving thanks that babies born before the 24-week abortion limit are surviving more frequently;
  • Thanking God for parents who reject abortion despite difficult circumstances.

FAMILY FREEDOM

Parents have the primary role in raising children. Families must remain free from wrongful state interference.

Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” PROVERBS 22:6

Please pray:

  • That state authorities will respect parents’ God-given responsibility for their children;
  • With thanks for the failure of a recent attempt to criminalise parents in Northern Ireland who gently smack their children;
  • Giving thanks for the strong opposition to the Scottish Government’s explicit sex census for 15-year-old school children.

SOCIETY

There is constant pressure to move away from God’s good instructions for his world.

seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you into exile. Pray to the LORD for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper”. JEREMIAH 29:7

Please pray:

  • For the CI, as we seek to bring Christian influence to secular society;
  • That lawmakers, the media and wider society would show greater respect for true marriage;
  • For better public awareness of the dangers of cannabis;
  • For much tighter regulation of gambling;
  • For God in his mercy to grant repentance and revival in the UK.

TRANSGENDER IDEOLOGY

Transgenderism seeks to destroy the God-given distinctions between men and women.

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.GENESIS 1:27

Please pray:

  • That schools and public bodies will reject misleading guidance on transgender ideology;
  • Thanking God for the widespread opposition to the Scottish Government’s Bill to allow anyone aged 16 and over to ‘choose their own legal sex’. Pray it will be defeated;
  • With thanks that courts have in many cases upheld the reality of biological sex;
  • That Christians will continue to show grace and truth to those struggling with gender confusion.

Saturday

GOSPEL FREEDOM

At Easter, we particularly remember Jesus’ death and celebrate his triumphant resurrection. Christians should not be hindered from sharing the Gospel message.

pray… that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ”. COLOSSIANS 4:3

Please pray:

  • With thanksgiving that Christians are free to proclaim the Gospel in the UK;
  • Giving thanks that, with our support, Stirling Free Church and the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association won their religious discrimination cases against The Robertson Trust;
  • That ‘hate crime’ proposals in Northern Ireland would not be used to restrict mainstream Christian teaching;
  • That any ‘conversion therapy’ ban will not outlaw the ordinary work of churches;
  • For our Let Us Pray campaign as it continues to raise concerns about a broad ban.
