Dear Friend,

WOW — this is a historic moment in Maryland. Last night, after YEARS of advocacy and organizing, the Time to Care Act (SB275) successfully passed out of the Maryland General Assembly! This legislation is set to establish the first-ever statewide paid family and medical leave program in Maryland . As long as Governor Larry Hogan doesn’t veto the bill, this legislation will improve the lives of more than 2.5 MILLION WORKING PEOPLE in our state.

We’re taking this moment to celebrate our partners in the Time to Care coalition , who have fought tirelessly for years for a paid leave program in Maryland — THANK YOU! We also want to thank the incredible members of our Healthcare Task Force , who have devoted so much time, energy, and care to this campaign!

Victories like this one are what we're fighting for at Progressive Maryland every day of the year. When we come together as people who believe a better world is possible, we can build a more racially, socially, and economically just future.

There’s still one more hurdle for the Time to Care Act to go through before it officially becomes law — approval by the Governor. After last night's vote, the bill was sent to Gov. Hogan’s desk. Now we’re waiting to see whether he’ll sign it, veto it, or allow it to become law without his signature. Please take a minute to use this email tool [[link removed]] we’ve put together to urge Gov. Hogan to sign SB275 into law so Maryland workers receive the Time to Care they deserve.
