Dear neighbor:

The Biden Administration and Democrats are building a better America for the people. Last year, we passed the American Rescue Plan that helped create 7.9 million jobs in 14 months, the most in U.S. history. Jobless claims are down to the lowest level in over 50 years and the unemployment rate is at a pandemic-era low of 3.6 percent. We’ve also made incredible progress in the battle against COVID-19. With the help of resources provided by Democrats in Congress, the Biden Administration has made strategic investments that quickly increased access to COVID-19 vaccines. These investments have and are continuing to save countless lives.

As you may know, this week the FDA authorized and the CDC recommended a fourth Pfizer and Moderna vaccine dose for people age 50 and older. For more on this new guidance, please click here.

To help Americans continue to navigate the pandemic, the White House launched a new website, Covid.gov, with the latest on how to keep you and your loved ones healthy. The website is a one-stop-shop with the latest information on vaccines, tests, treatments, and masks, as well as updates on COVID-19 in LA County. Be sure to check it out. Here’s a look at some of the items I’ve been working on this week:

  • Joined a House Judiciary Committee hearing on Oversight of the FBI Cyber Division and emphasized the need to strengthen our cyber defenses to prevent harmful cyberattacks.
  • Helped secure increased federal funding for our veterans in the FY22 Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act.
  • Voted in support of a bill to lower the cost of insulin.
  • Attended a classified briefing on Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

I also want to commend President Biden for assembling a worldwide coalition of allies who have delivered massive military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine, and sanctions on Russia. I’ll keep pushing for more, but want to acknowledge the great work of the Administration in re-establishing the United States as a global leader.
