Hi John, Today, I joined my colleagues in the U.S. House to pass the Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement (MORE) Act -- legislation that effectively removes marijuana from the Controlled Substances Act and decriminalizes it.
The MORE Act adds a 5% sales tax on marijuana products that would be used for grant programs focused on job training, substance abuse treatments, and loans for small businesses trying to get into the industry. It also expunges prior marijuana convictions and conducts resentencing hearings for those completing their sentences. I urge the Senate to follow our lead to pass this important legislation and get it to President Biden's desk as soon as possible. I'm happy to support these common-sense measures and vote yes on the MORE Act. Democrats and Republicans alike agree our existing laws need on this to be changed. No one's career or life deserves to be upended due to outdated laws. |
