MomsRising presents: 5Actions

Top #5Actions
of the Past Week
Friday, April 1, 2022

It’s April Fools Day, but we’re serious that there are lots of important actions you can quickly take to stand up for women and families! Next week is going to be a very busy week in Washington with discussions ramping up again about what may be included in the next economic package. You can help make sure Congress and the White House stay focused on the right priorities by signing on to the actions below.

This week’s 5Actions include actions focused on community- and home-based services, critical child care infrastructure, student loan debt, and fair pay.

Thank you for all you do.

Quick signature: Tell Congress to invest in Home- and Community-Based Services!

As parents, we all want our children to grow up as healthy as possible and find their place in the world. We want our babies to thrive as they become children, teenagers, and eventually adults, and to be wholly included in our communities. But for many families who have kids and adults with disabilities, or aging family members, this shared hope can be a monumental struggle without the right kind of support and services. This is why we need Congress to take action to improve our long-term care system to enable kids and people with disabilities, as well as older adults, to stay at home and thrive in their communities.

Solve Child Care: Write a letter to the editor now!

Your Action Status: NOT YET SUBMITTED -> Submit Now

Right now, Congress is working on an economic package, which must include critical child care and Pre-K investments needed to solve our nation’s ongoing child care crisis. That means that RIGHT NOW (again…!) is a critical time to amp up the pressure and make sure child care isn’t left out of this new plan. This is why we are reaching out to you to take the important and impactful step of sending a letter to the editor to your local newspaper! It’s easy and quick with our letter to the editor tool. Letters to the editor are an incredibly powerful way to make sure our elected leaders get the message. Lawmakers are reading their local papers to get a sense of what matters to people in their community.

Can you help save child care by sending a quick letter now?

Tell President Biden: Families Need Student Debt Relief!

Your Action Status: NOT YET SIGNED -> Sign Now

Advancing our education in hopes of a stable future shouldn’t result in decades of financial hardship. While running for President, Joe Biden promised to cancel student loan debt, and it’s time to get the job done.

Women hold nearly 2/3 of all student loan debt and women of color are disproportionately burdened with this debt. Families across the country are struggling to make ends meet amidst rising costs, which are largely driven by corporate greed.

With the stroke of a pen, President Biden can deliver instant relief in the form of student loan forgiveness!

Sign our letter to President Biden about the urgency of student loan forgiveness!

EqualPayStories

Have you experienced wage discrimination?

Your Action Status: NOT YET SUBMITTED -> Submit Now

Has your paycheck been impacted by unequal pay or wage discrimination? Have you been paid less than your male coworkers for discriminatory reasons?

Due to sexism, racism, and bias against caregivers, moms are typically paid just 58 cents for every dollar paid to fathers. We're working to ensure equal pay is a reality in everyone's wages and would love to hear about your experiences with this issue.

Share your story about unfair pay!

P.S.– Listen in! On the radio show, Breaking Through, this week, we cover the spectacular nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the U.S. Supreme Court (and how you can help get her confirmed); what's happening with disinformation online and how you can help stop it; and we also cover the growing movement of moms and caregivers — including Mothering Honestly, the Chamber of Moms, and the Fifth Trimester — rising up to demand a care infrastructure.

P.P.S.– This content is also on the MomsRising blog!
