Good morning, Here is today's Texas Minute.
- A public school teacher is lashing out at parents who don’t think it is appropriate for their kids’ academic day to be interrupted by a visit from an adult male entertainer who performs in drag at local strip clubs. Reagan Reed has the details.
- “I believe that raising a child is the responsibility of the community and that parents should not have the final say. Let’s be honest, some of you don’t know what is best for your kids.” – Willis High School English teacher Anthony Lane
- Despite what one might think, Cary Chesire writes that there are a few congressmen who are seeking to drain the Swamp and root out the corruption, self-dealing, and squalor that D.C. is known for—and several of them are from Texas. With that in mind, Texans for Fiscal Responsibility announced yesterday the first round of congressional endorsements. Additional endorsement for Congress will be announced in the
coming weeks.
- Austin entrepreneur Don Dyer has issued a public letter calling on Gov. Greg Abbott to call a special legislative session so members of the Texas House can elect a new, ethical speaker – and both chambers can enact meaningful conservative reforms. Dyer has been one of the key grassroots leaders crafting and promoting the Lone Star Agenda. Brandon Waltens has the details.
- “Governor Abbott, the people of Texas have a plan to save our state. Your leadership is all that is necessary to lead the plan, unite all Republicans, and save the Lone Star State.” – Don Dyer
- With grassroots activists demanding real legislative results ahead of the 2020 election, I have put together a compendium of what individual House members have posted about the Lone Star Agenda and calls for a special session.
- Amid a citywide homeless crisis, Austin City Council has a new plan: spend $8 million to put up 81 people in a homeless hotel. Jacob Asmussen explains the city-owned homeless hotel will allow individuals to enter without any background check, stay as long as they want, and won’t need to be sober while they’re there.
- Sounds like the Democratic Caucus of the U.S. House.
Number of days until Texas’ Republican and Democratic primary elections.
“There has now been created a world in which the success of others is a grievance, rather than an example.”
