Biden's Off-Script Gaffes

This week, President Biden’s off-script gaffes sent the White House and the world into a frenzy. His remarks were dangerous and leave the nation vulnerable to the fallout of his deteriorating oratory and mental skills.

Biden implied that America will use chemical weapons against Russia, that American troops will be deployed in Ukraine to fight Russian invaders, and that the Russian regime cannot stay in power.

Biden and the White House later walked back the remarks, but no amount of post-Biden-statement cleanup can repair the damage of his intemperate, unfocused outbursts.

The president’s relentlessly reckless statements are not clear. They are muddy and at times, incoherent. And that makes him dangerous

Mr. Biden is bringing the world to the brink of a general war, the likes of which haven’t been experienced since World War II.

When Mr. Biden became president, many who voted for him did so because they thought he had a nicer “tone” than former President Donald Trump. As they watch the havoc imposed on America by Joe Biden, they surely must have buyer’s remorse.

Title 42 Public Health Order to be Lifted at the Southern Border

This week, the Biden Administration announced that it would lift the Title 42 public health order at the southern border on May 23.

Title 42 is a public health order that enables U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents to quickly remove illegal aliens from the country in order to mitigate risks from COVID-19.

If this order is lifted, hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens are expected to flock to the United States hoping to exploit Joe Biden’s open-border agenda. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has estimated that immigration officials could encounter 18,000 illegal aliens per day, which is significantly higher than the 6,000 or so they are currently encountering.

Given the Biden Administration’s “catch and release” policies, this surge will lead to an ever-increasing number of aliens being released into American communities. This will create an additional crisis that immigration authorities simply do not have the bandwidth and resources to handle.

I introduced legislation to close the loopholes in immigration that Joe Biden is allowing to be exploited. The Stopping Border Surges Act would fixes problems caused by the Flores Settlement Agreement that prevents DHS from detaining family units for more than 20 days, ensures that unaccompanied alien children are quickly and safely returned home, and promotes increased integrity in the asylum system. You can read the full bill text here and my press release on the bill here.

USS Arizona Briefing

Gilbert Mayor Brigette Peterson and Nikki Stratton, the granddaughter of one of the three last living survivors aboard the battleship USS Arizona, visited my district office to discuss Gilbert’s sponsoring of a new submarine named after the battleship.

USS Arizona was lost in the Japanese attack at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, resulting in the deaths of 1,177 crew members.

Gilbert’s Veterans and Military Advisory Committee expect it to be stationed in Pearl Harbor to continue its legacy.

I appreciate Mayor Peterson and Ms. Stratton visiting my office and updating me on this special project.

Turtleback Trailers Tour

I visited Turtleback Trailers in Chandler to learn more about solutions for both the outdoor community and U.S. Marine Corps and special operations teams.

Turtleback Trailers is a manufacturer of custom, hard-use, overland trailers for families and individuals. These trailers are built using only American-made products sourced mostly from local Arizona suppliers and manufacturers.

Barry and his team invited me to tour their manufacturing facility and learn more about how they are working with the U.S. Marine Corps and Army Special Operations teams to adapt these products for military use. From logistical support to communications, these compact trailers will be a tremendous tool for our servicemen and women.

Not only is Arizona the best state to get outdoors, but we lead the way in supporting our defense forces.

A big thank you to Barry and his team for the informative tour.

Improving Veterans' Care

This week, I introduced two pieces of legislation that improve veterans’ healthcare.

The first one is the TEAM Veteran Caregivers Act which increases efficiency, transparency, and accountability in the Department of Veterans Affairs' (VA) family caregivers program. Caregivers of veterans face immense burdens from unnecessary bureaucracy. This bill helps streamline the VA’s family caregiver program and ensures our veterans and caregivers receive the service they rightfully deserve.

The second one is the TBI and PTSD Treatment Act. This legislation directs the Veterans Administration (VA) to furnish Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) to veterans with traumatic brain injury (TBI) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The change provides veterans an additional option to treat serious mental health conditions, especially as our veteran community continues to face a suicide epidemic.

Lastly, I sent a letter to David Ferriero, the Archivist at the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration, in an effort to hold the National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) more accountable for its veterans’ record request backlogs. The NPRC delays are preventing veterans from receiving the records they need to access care and services. Veterans deserve better access to the care they need and deserve. The letter may be read here

Definition of the Week

Who could forget Will Smith’s slapping of Chris Rock at the Oscars this week? While a shocking move, don’t let it distract you from Joe Biden’s daily slapping of Americans.

Under Biden’s watch, America faces high gas prices, record inflation, and an open border.

Courtesy of Michael Knowles’ Speechless, here’s what we think is the latest definition:

Slap: VERB: an action that undermines American interests at the expense of a doddering, senile man.
