JMC Receives One of the Highest Rankings in New K-12 Civics Audit

A new study ([link removed]) published jointly by Pioneer Institute and the National Association of Scholars offers in-depth evaluations of 15 leading civics programs in K-12 civics education.

The report is intended to guide funders and policy makers on how best to "defend and improve traditional civics education".
The Jack Miller Center received one of the top rankings in the report for effectiveness in our K-12 teacher training programs. Following is their full review of the Jack Miller Center:

"The Jack Miller Center has worked to strengthen higher education for a generation, particularly by sponsoring programs within universities that provide a traditional education in Western Civilization and American history.

Its Founding Civics Initiative (FCI) ([link removed]) now concentrates on broad-based support for [high school] teacher training: the FCI “introduces graduate courses and professional development for teachers that deepen their understanding of foundational texts and ideas in the American political tradition and help them develop curricula for their classrooms.”

So it has funded a Virtual Seminar Series for Florida Teachers, with an admirable list of sessions including Historical Antecedents to the Bill of Rights, Freedom of Religion, and The Second Amendment, as well as funding for the Summer Civics Institute at the University of Virginia, Civic Spirit in New York City, and summer graduate courses at the University of Wisconsin Madison, Tufts University, and the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia.

JMC’s support for the Civics Program for Teachers (CPT), hosted by Lake Forest College, deserves particular mention because CPT “consists of a series of graduate courses designed to help teachers respond to the new State of Illinois civics requirement for high-school students.” Illinois’ civics standards, unfortunately, have been extensively remodeled by radical activists. Nevertheless, teacher training programs ought to be intelligently crafted to meet state standards—if only to encourage teachers to take advantage of these offerings.

Analysis: The Jack Miller Center and its funding beneficiaries have taken a thoughtful and productive approach to teacher training programs."

We are the boots on the ground, working to bring the American political tradition and history back to the classroom, from K-12 through college. And we are just getting started.
