Hi Friend, did you get today’s email from our new Vice-Chair Shay Wyrick Cathey?

I couldn’t be more confident that Shay will make you proud as she takes on this new role, building power with Texas Democrats in every corner of our state.

Friend, we’ve set ambitious goals for ourselves this year. Turn out new and longtime voters from Amarillo to Brownsville. Change the face of leadership in our state at every level, from governor to justice of the peace. And most of all, elect leaders who fight for working Texans.

There’s a lot on the line. And if we want to accomplish all of these goals come Election Day, we need every Texas Democrat committed to the fight. There are only a few hours left before our midnight end-of-quarter fundraising deadline -- only a few hours left to show Republicans that Texas Democrats mean business.

So I’m asking: can we count on you to rush an emergency $7 contribution, so on Election Night, we celebrate a new era of progress for our state?

Friend, there’s so much at stake and no time to waste. Shay and I -- as well as Texas Democrats all across the state -- are ready for change and are putting in the work to make it happen. I hope you are too.

Adelante,

Gilberto Hinojosa
Chair, Texas Democratic Party

Subject: Hi Friend, I’m your new Texas Democratic Party Vice-Chair!

Hi Friend,

The last week has been an absolute whirlwind and I’m so excited to be reaching out to you to introduce myself. I’m Shay Wyrick Cathey, your new Vice-Chair of the Texas Democratic Party.

I was just elected over the weekend, and I’m ready to hit the ground running and get to work! While I’m new to this role, I’m certainly not new to our movement.

I’m a lifelong Democrat. I cast my first vote for Governor Ann Richards in 1990 by absentee ballot from my college dorm room. For the last 20 years, I’ve served my community at all levels of county government here in Dallas. I’ve proudly represented Dallas and Tarrant Counties on the State Democratic Executive Committee since 2006 -- the longest-serving Black executive committee member.

Friend, my passion for our movement is in my blood.

As the daughter of a union worker and precinct chair, I’ve seen firsthand how the struggle for justice and equity in our state spans generations. I’ll never forget block walking with my parents as a child or knocking on doors when I was in high school. As an adult, I’ve put out campaign signs and phone banked with my husband. And I hope I can pass along that same passion to my teenage sons.

We have an important year ahead of us. In just a few months, we’ll have a critical runoff election to determine who will round out our slate of Democratic candidates. Then this summer, we’re hosting our first in person convention in four years right here in Dallas. All leading up to November 8th, our chance to take back our state from the failed leadership of Republicans like Greg Abbott, Dan Patrick, and Ken Paxton.

Friend, I can promise you this. I will be hands and feet on the ground until 7 PM on November 8th. I won’t rest knowing there’s still work to be done. And I couldn’t be more excited to be doing this work with you.

With so much on the horizon, we need every Texas Democrat with us along the way. Will you rush a $7 contribution before our midnight end-of-quarter deadline so we have the resources needed to take back our state this November?

Whether you’ve been in this movement with us for years or you’re joining us for the first time, I just want you to know that I’m so glad you’re here. From the bottom of my heart -- thank you.

Now let’s get to work.

All the best,

Shay Wyrick Cathey
