My last midterm race was close — I won by just 1.7% — and this quarter a poll showed me down by 1% against a GOP opponent. Tonight’s quarterly deadline is the first of this midterm election year. At midnight, my team will close the books on this quarter and soon Mitch McConnell, Rick Scott, and my opponents here in Colorado will look for weaknesses in our fundraising numbers. Instead, they’ll see a strong grassroots movement because I don’t take a penny from corporate PACs and federal lobbyists. I don’t work for those groups — I work for you.
With your support and feedback, I banned surprise emergency medical bills; reformed the United States Postal Service to improve service and delivery for Colorado’s communities and small-businesses; secured investments in our roads, bridges, and high-speed internet that will create jobs; and now I’m fighting to cap the out-of-pocket cost of insulin at $35. With your generous support, we can continue to deliver results for hardworking families in Colorado and nationwide.
But right now, I’m up against the National GOP’s fundraising machine and candidates who pour their own money into their campaigns when grassroots support is low. This cycle alone, the GOP arm working to flip the Senate raised over $130 million to flip seats like mine. But my team tells me, if you’re one of the 323 more donors to pitch in before midnight, we’ll be on track to defend my seat and continue making progress for Colorado.
