MESSAGE FROM
CATHERINE
Dear John,
In response to the recent
spike in burglaries and home invasions, this week I
launched the District
2 Anti-Burglary Neighborhood Network. This network will
bring together neighbors, SFPD leadership, and safety experts
to:
- Connect residents with
community safety resources
- Report on current crime
data
- Foster meaningful
engagement around public safety
- Aggregate real-time crime
data in District 2
- Host regular
public safety town halls
Explore the District 2 Neighborhood
Anti-Burglary Resources website HERE,
sign up for upcoming Public Safety Town
Halls, and join the neighborhood network! The launch webinar recording
is also available HERE.
Let me be clear, this is no substitute for adequate police
staffing. We cannot meet the demand for service, implement necessary
criminal justice reforms, or protect our most vulnerable residents
without adequate police staffing and for more than two years that
hasn’t been the case. The Police Chief currently estimates that the
SFPD is approximately 500 officers short. That is unacceptable. I will
continue to fight for the public safety resources San Franciscans
need.
In advance of this year’s annual budget deliberations, on
April 14 at 10:00 am, I am holding a hearing on police staffing at the
Public Safety and Neighborhood Services Committee where the SFPD will
present on just how dire their situation has become. I encourage you
to tune
in and make public comment.
Warm
Regards, Catherine
