Dear John,
Can I be transparent with you for a moment? Despite my life-long love for the beauty of the Boundary Waters, a dark cloud looms in the back of my mind every time I reflect on its future. For all of the peace and serenity that I find paddling the waters of the BWCA, there is also an ever-present awareness that, in an instant, this could all be destroyed. |
Yet at this moment mining companies are still plotting how they will place a toxic mine on the shoreline of the Boundary Waters. A single decision, one small mistake, would destroy any hope for future generations for experiencing the Boundary Waters and there will be no going back. You and I can’t afford to be complacent, we must do everything we can to ensure that this threat to the Boundary Waters never happens. The Campaign to Save the Boundary Waters has made some great progress this year, but until a law is passed by Congress, that dark cloud continues to loom over the Boundary Waters. The good news is, we can win. Right now we are at a rare moment where our efforts, this year, could decide the fate of the Boundary Waters forever. The Campaign is fighting to pass a bill through Congress to ensure that the Boundary Waters becomes a forever Wilderness - ensuring that future generations will get a chance to experience this beautiful Wilderness.
If you are waiting for the right moment to pitch in to protect the Boundary Waters, now is the moment. |
