We are excited to announce HB22-1289 Cover All Coloradans has been introduced in the Colorado legislature!

HB22-1289 will expand health insurance coverage in Colorado to all low income children and pregnant people residing in our state - no exceptions. Health care is a human right. Where people are born or how much money they have shouldn’t determine if families have access to a healthy life.

Our team at CIRC Action has been working hard finalizing our voter engagement plans for this year’s elections! We will launch our program in June and focus on grassroots community organizing and building community power through relational organizing and deep canvassing within BIPOC communities.

We will be involved in both the Governor’s and Senate races, as well as all competitive congressional districts: CD 3, 7, and 8 to ensure that Colorado’s immigrant communities continue to be represented by champions of immigration reform.

Colorado’s new 8th Congressional District is a particularly exciting race because it has a nearly 40% Latinx population and gives us the opportunity to elect a progressive candidate of color to represent this community. While it is a diverse district, it is expected to be an incredibly competitive election, so our investment will be key to ensuring that these communities of color are fairly represented.

Support our work today! Starting our voter engagement work early puts us ahead of anti-immigrant candidates and lays the groundwork for organizations like CIRC Action to turn out BIPOC voters in the force that will be required for solid progressive wins in 2022.

Early investments in competitive state races will be critical to boosting BIPOC voter turnout to ultimately protect the Democratic majority that we fought for over the past decade with our progressive partners.

Along with many other Colorado organizations, CIRC contributed to a community town hall on March 11 with Senators Hickenlooper and Bennet. Attended by over 200 people, directly impacted community members shared powerful testimony and concerns about the budget, Build Back Better as a key investment in our shared security, and increased spending on ICE and detention.

Both Senators expressed strong support for citizenship for all, including in Build Back Better, and Senator Hickenlooper expressed his strongest public support yet for decreasing funding for ICE. We look forward to working with the Senators to hold them to their promises to make this a reality.

On March 1st, President Biden delivered his first formal State of the Union address before a joint session of Congress at the Capitol amidst the biggest crisis in Europe since World War II. The President praised the courage of the Ukrainian people and laid out the dire situation following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the humanitarian crisis that has unfolded. Already, 4.1 million refugees have fled the country and millions more have been displaced within Ukraine.

Ukraine has joined the growing list of states around the world that have seen huge community displacement as a result of violence recently. Extreme gang and cartel violence continue to plague Central America and Mexico. Natural disasters and political and gang violence have created a humanitarian crisis in Haiti. Growing instability and violence is leading to a worsening humanitarian situation in Cameroon. While the Biden Administration has provided some temporary relief to some of these refugees, it has continued to deport people back to dangerous situations.
