John, I have an urgent update for you: Time is running out before our midnight fundraising deadline, and we're still falling short. We cannot fail the memory of Jim Brady, so please: Can you chip in now?

As a gun violence survivor, I've always been inspired by Jim Brady's story. Forty-one years ago, he turned a horrible experience into fierce advocacy to prevent gun violence and went on to pass the landmark Brady Bill. I know the strength it takes to turn to advocacy after tragedy: After my mother was shot and killed 19 years ago, I've been on a journey of healing that has led me to Brady. I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t believe wholeheartedly in this organization, in this mission, and most importantly, in our ability to change this country.

The NRA tried to stop Jim. They've tried to stop us too. But Jim never gave up — and neither will we. I work next to inspiring people at Brady who bring that same energy into our work, and we need the same from you now. That's why I'm personally reaching out:

Will you give $25 right now to help us reach our crucial $25,000 goal, defeat the NRA, and honor Jim and Sarah Brady's legacy?

Thanks for everything you do,

Subject: the man behind everything we do

John, I'm about to ask you to support Brady's lifesaving work to end gun violence. But before I do, I want to tell you about the man who inspired everything we do to this day: Jim Brady.

Jim Brady dedicated his life to public service and he became White House press secretary in the Reagan administration — then, 41 years ago, a bullet tore through his brain and rendered him partially paralyzed. Jim, along with his wife, Sarah, pledged the rest of their lives to protecting others from gun violence. A legacy of courage and perseverance that guides our work to this day.

It wasn't an easy road — not for him and not for us. The NRA has spent decades pouring hundreds of millions of dollars into blocking every single piece of common-sense gun safety legislation we propose, including the Brady Bill itself (there's a reason Jim called the NRA "the Evil Empire"). But the same persistence that got that lifesaving law passed is what has helped us make serious progress since.

Now, we have to build on that progress and keep fighting for an end to gun violence — for Jim, for his legacy, but most of all, for everyone we've lost and everyone we can still save. We have to keep fighting for universal background checks, a ban on assault weapons, and anything else we can do to reduce the number of deaths and injuries caused by NRA-funded gun zealotry.

So we've set a goal to raise $25,000 before midnight on March 31 in honor of Jim, but right now we're coming up $8,763 short. There's no way we can close this gap without you, John, so we're coming to you to ask for your support:

Will you donate right now to honor Jim Brady's legacy and help the organization that bears his name and continues his mission to finally defeat the NRA and save lives from gun violence?

Thank you,
