The New York Times: Abortion Is New Litmus Test for Democratic Attorneys General Group

Friends - A majority of Americans support a woman's right to choose, yet this right has been under CONSTANT attack by President Trump, who has gutted Title X, attempted to roll back Obama-era contraception coverage, and slashed funding for Planned Parenthood.

We believe there is a bold line Democrats must draw on this important issue. That's why we're thrilled to share some big news: From here on out, the Democratic Attorneys General Association will only support AG candidates who stand with the majority of Americans in supporting full reproductive rights including the right to access abortion.

As the first-ever Democratic campaign committee with a requirement for candidates to protect reproductive rights, this is an extremely bold and consequential decision. But here's the thing, friends: It wasn't a hard one. Democratic AGs have been on the front lines of defending reproductive rights - they've sued the Trump Administration over and over, and have challenged conservative, right-wing states for attempting to roll back reproductive rights.

We're leading the way and embracing a future with a Democratic Party that relentlessly protects Roe v. Wade - and a majority of the country is already here with us. But this decision doesn't mean ultraconservative Republicans who are fighting to overturn Roe v. Wade will simply give up and walk away. It means they'll work even harder to defeat us.

That's why we're calling on 20,000 Democrats to speak out today in support of this new movement to show our strength in the fight for reproductive rights. We need you to sign the petition before midnight: Will you add your name now and stand with the majority of American who believe in protecting Roe v. Wade?
