Dear John,
It’s finally starting to feel like springtime and with new opportunities to visit Washington, D.C., I wanted to take this opportunity to remind you of some of the many ways that my team and I are here to serve you! I’m eager to share with you:
- Exciting updates about the return of tours of the U.S. Capitol Building and other tips for visiting DC
- How we can help you navigate federal agencies and the best way to request meetings with me and my team
- The many congressional programs available for young people in our community

In case you missed it, tours of the U.S. Capitol began reopening to the public this week! For now, these tours are returning on a limited basis, but I hope you’ll consider a visit. My office is also open and my team and I would love to meet you. If you are in town, I hope you’ll stop by. Wandering the halls this week, the Capitol feels like it’s coming back to life, and it’s been wonderful to see students and families taking in the beauty and history of this place. You can request a tour here on our website.

Another one of my favorite places down in Washington is the U.S. Botanic Garden, which will be fully reopening to the public on April 1st. Though it doesn’t quite match the splendor of our very own Longwood Gardens, it does have a beautiful greenhouse and gardens featuring plants from all over the world. Its creation was the vision of our founding fathers and its commitment to conservation and study is very cool! If you’re visiting D.C., I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Finally, I know that many of you who are interested in visiting the Capitol are also eager to check out the White House. Because of high demand and a limited number of tours, booking a White House tour is a little tricky and we’re standing by to help you through the process. My office can submit tour requests up to three months in advance, so the earlier you submit your request, the better. Once we’ve sent your request to the White House, they are responsible for officially confirming your tour.

When dealing with things as important as your passport, tax return, social security, or veterans’ benefits, I know that navigating federal agencies can be difficult and frustrating—that’s why my team and I put such an emphasis on our casework. My team and I are dedicated to helping in any way we can to ensure you receive a fair and timely response to the issues you may have. Since January 2021, our incredible constituent advocates have returned over $9 million to folks in our community, expedited hundreds of passport and immigration appointments, and helped with countless other federal issues. If you are having an issue with the:
- Internal Revenue Service (IRS)
- Social Security Administration (SSA)
- Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)
- Small Business Administration (SBA)
- United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS)
or another federal agency, please feel free to reach out to us—we’re here to help.

Another way that my team and I strive to serve our community is through the appropriations process. This year, I’m so proud that we were able to secure more than $24 million for our community through community funding and transportation projects. These funds will help improve our roads and bridges, strengthen our schools and hospitals, and bolster our working families. I cannot wait to see the positive impact of these investments, and I’m eager to start pushing for further investment in our district.
The best way to request a meeting with me or my team to discuss proposals for this year’s appropriations process is to fill out our meeting request form here. I look forward to reviewing your proposal soon!

As a former educator, I’m always looking for ways to extend opportunities to the young people of PA-06. As such, I wanted to take this opportunity to highlight some of the programs our students can apply for through our office. - Internships – It’s my goal to give students and recent graduates the chance to serve our community and gain valuable congressional experience. To learn more about our legislative internships, click here. To learn more about our press internship, click here.
- Service Academy Nominations – As a veteran of the Air Force, I take my responsibility to nominate candidates for appointment to the U.S. Service Academies seriously. I am proud to work with a panel of local veterans to nominate outstanding young people from our community each year. If you or someone you know is seeking a nomination, please find more information here.
- Congressional Art Competition – Each year we put on a nationwide High School Art Competition to encourage young artists to pursue their passion. Winners will have their work displayed down in Washington, D.C. Click here to learn more about how to participate in this year’s competition.
- Congressional App Challenge – Encouraging STEM students to explore their fullest potential is so important to me, and I love the Congressional App Challenge’s ability to highlight our students’ remarkable talent. It is one of the premier computer science competitions in the nation, and it gives students the chance to learn and practice highly marketable coding skills. For the rules and how to register click here.
Keep in mind, these are just some of the ways that my team and I can help you! For a more complete picture, head over to our website: houlahan.house.gov.
