** CITES in Lyon: the good, the bad and the ugly ([link removed])

EIA’s UK and US Wildlife campaigners were in Lyon for the 74th Meeting of the Standing Committee to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) in March. It was an opportunity for us to sound the alarm over endangered species at risk from trade as well as the role that crime and corruption plays in undermining conservation efforts around the world. ** War sanctions, superyachts and blood timber ([link removed])

As sanctions against Russia for its invasion of Ukraine bit, the seizure of a billionaire’s superyacht exposed by EIA in 2016 for using illicit Burmese teak prompted us to issue a reminder of the sanctions against teak imports from junta-run Myanmar.

Our latest What on Earth? podcast discussed an alarming report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, using the most recent data on global warming and its impacts – and concludes that the grim future it paints is not one we have to choose.
