All three Amendments to the BYD Constitution have passed! They read as followed:
1. Codifying the Virtual Endorsement Procedure
When voting for an endorsement concludes, the raw vote totals are forwarded to every Brooklyn Young Democrats Board Member. The Secretary shall announce to the Brooklyn Young Democrats’ full executive board the raw vote totals and the winner (if any) of each endorsement vote. Any member who requests to see the raw vote totals is permitted to during a meeting with the Secretary. The Secretary shall schedule a meeting with the member within 7 days of their request.
2. Limiting Political Donations to BYD Board Members Seeking Elected Office
Brooklyn Young Democrats shall not donate more than the following amounts to executive board members seeking elected offices.
County Committee: $0
District Leader: $350
State Assembly, State Senate, City Council: $500
Congress: $1,000
If an executive board member runs for an office that is not listed above, then they are eligible to receive up to either $500 or an amount equal to the average contribution that BYD has offered past candidates who have run for that office.
3. Reorganization of BYD Executive Board Responsibilities to Align with New NYS Assembly Maps
Moves responsibility for the 51st Assembly District from the Northern Brooklyn VP to the Southern Brooklyn VP.
