John,

Greens have a long history of standing shoulder to shoulder with refugees from across the globe. Scroll for more on what the Green Party is doing to provide safety to all refugees and to learn about the migration and refugee policies that will be introduced when Greens are elected to even more councils in May đź”˝

We are proud that conference recently made it Green Party policy to provide safe routes and waive the current visa requirements for people fleeing the war in Ukraine - including Black, Asian and Arab refugees, many of whom cannot easily return to their home countries.

When Greens get elected to their Councils in May we will introduce schemes to reunite unaccompanied child refugees with their families and make councils support unaccompanied asylum-seeking children. In the mean time, Natalie Bennett and Jenny Jones are fighting the government’s xenophobic Nationality and Borders Bill in the House of Lords, to make this country a more welcoming place for all refugees, whether they’re from Ukraine, Afghanistan or any other vulnerable place right now. Voting Green makes a difference and paves the way for a much kinder version of politics.

Caroline Lucas appeared on Woman's Hour talking about net zero and energy security, saying that the prime minister need to recognise that 'the climate crisis is itself a national security issue'.

Green peer Natalie Bennett brought a distinctive Green message to Radio 4’s Westminster Hour, saying we cannot maintain economic growth on a finite planet or be secure as a world until we have a global ban on nuclear weapons.

Responding to the Spring Statement, Greens warned that the Chancellor has ignored the plight of millions of families. Caroline Lucas questioned him on the statement in the Commons.

Robin Bennett, leader of the Green Group on South Oxfordshire District Council, where the Greens are in joint administration with the Lib Dems, wrote on how Greens in power do politics differently.

Co-leader Adrian Ramsay appeared on Politics East to talk about energy security and green taxes in light of the cost of living crisis. He said we cannot afford not to make the green transition.

Green peer Jenny Jones joined ITV’s West Country Debate to discuss solutions to our energy and cost of living crisis saying we should be helping communities create their own power stations with local renewable energy projects rather than going begging to the Saudis for more oil.

Wales Green Party leader Anthony Slaughter was quoted in the National's coverage of protests against expanding the Aberpergwm coal mine.

Lancashire County Councillor and former MEP Gina Dowding told the Independent that she had “no doubt the community would rally again” to oppose fracking after the Prime Minister said he was “looking at all options”.

For International Women’s Day, London Assembly Members Caroline Russell and Sian Berry and former General Election candidate Rosamund Kissi-Debrah featured prominently in the Evening Standard on the women leading the fight against climate change in London.

Want to work with us? We have an exciting new role available, working closely with the Young Greens liberation group. We are recruiting for a Young Greens Administration Officer. It is a part-time remote role with occasional travel and the successful applicant will play a vital part in supporting grassroots campaigns, aiming to mobilise and get young people elected.

Are you ready for the local elections in May? The voice of the Green Party has never been more important in making sure that we build fair and resilient communities all over England and Wales. Councils with Green councillors work hard for social and environmental justice in their local communities, like how Stroud District Council is using development planning to cut car use or Lewes District Council is setting short-term measurable goals for climate and nature-related targets. We are in the midst of a cost-of-living crisis and we need Greens in every council to make sure local communities get what they want and need.

We are launching our local election campaign Tuesday 5 April and will be live streaming the event on Facebook from 11am. Will you be watching?
