Child Defender,
We're prioritizing children to make sure they all have stable homes, quality health care, ample nutritious food, good schools, and safe neighborhoods. In our recent survey, many CDF supporters shared which priorities for children mattered the most to them. We had a chance to reflect on the responses and want to share with you our priorities for the year ahead.
As the world begins to emerge from the COVID pandemic, we are sharpening our vision for the future by:
- Continuing to build child-centered public policy, informed by racial equity and the lived experience of children;
- Continuing our nearly 50-year legacy of training young people for literacy and leadership through CDF Freedom Schools®;
- Working with families, communities, faith leaders, and elected officials to reinstate and make permanent life-changing benefits like the Child Tax Credit that recently ended;
- Revitalizing our seminal Black Student Leadership Network, 30 years after its original founding, and the impetus of our annual CDF Freedom Schools® Ella Baker Child Policy Training Institute; and
- Expanding access to the CDF Freedom Schools® all over the country to accommodate 10,000 young scholars--rivaling pre-pandemic levels.
We look forward to working alongside you to make these goals a reality. There's still so much work to be done.
