Delia Ramirez for IL-03 congressional district Indivisibles,
For our latest endorsement, we wanted to highlight a particularly bold, progressive candidate in a unique and vital position. Indivisible is proud to announce our endorsement of State Rep. Delia Ramirez in the June 28 Democratic Primary for Illinois’ Third Congressional District. Rep. Ramirez is vying for the seat in a newly readjusted Third District which will give Latinx voters another voice in Congress.
The daughter of Guatemalan immigrants, Delia is backed by a bevy of Illinois progressive politicians and organizations including Rep. Jesús “Chuy” García (two-time national surrogate for Sen. Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaigns), the Chicago Teachers Union, and Rep. Jan Schakowsky, along with Mijente, Working Families Party, and EMILY’s List. Delia has the firm support of progressives who have worked with her across the Chicagoland area. And after receiving an endorsement nomination from Indivisible Chicago Alliance, we’re joining Team Delia!

“I am running because I have a proven track record of building strong and diverse coalitions and getting things done including successfully passing legislation expanding affordable housing, Medicaid coverage to senior citizens regardless of immigration status, and the creation of an elected school board in the City of Chicago. I also worked hard in the passage of landmark climate change and renewable energy legislation (CEJA) in Illinois. As I have done in the state legislature, in Congress I will fight for legislative and policy changes to make sure every community in my district and beyond has a thriving and empowered local economy, health care for all, accessible and affordable housing, and high-quality public education from pre-k to college. Working families are struggling to recover from the pandemic, and we are seeing daily attacks on people of color, women's rights, workers, and our voting rights. We need someone in Congress who is not afraid to take on these difficult fights on behalf of our communities. I believe I am that candidate.” |
In a solidly Democratic district, making this race the de facto election, Rep. Ramirez faces a primary challenge from Chicago Ald. Gilbert Villegas, positioning Delia squarely as by far the most progressive candidate in the race. If elected, Rep. Ramirez would be the first Latina from the Midwest in Congress, potentially adding to the only 13 total current Latina congressional representatives.
Indivisible is excited to endorse a candidate who is committed to fighting for housing justice, public education, healthcare for all, and to defend the rights and safety of women and the LGBTQ+ community. Most importantly, we are excited to see how your support can help push her over the finish line.
In solidarity, Indivisible Team
