We’re headed to an April full of events! 

Reminder to register for the Virginia Young Democrats annual convention from April 8th-10th in Alexandria, Virginia before the deadline this Friday, April 1st. 

A huge thank you to everyone who came out to our Women’s Leadership Forum last week and to our wonderful panelists, Del. Elizabeth Guzman, Del. Briana Sewell, Commonwealth's Attorney Parisa Dehghani-Tafti, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia Executive Director Jamie Lockhart, Public Health Attorney Maggie Davis, and Arlington Dems Outreach & Visibility Chair Sangeeta Rao. It was incredible to hear about your views and lived experiences as women in leadership positions. An additional thank you to Congressman Don Beyer for his candidate introduction and taking the time to come and speak with us. If you missed it, you can watch it here.

Here’s what’s happening in Richmond:

• Governor Youngkin called for a special session for the General Assembly to pass the state budget. 
• The GOP proposes cutting the full 2.5% grocery tax; the Democrats want to reduce the tax by 1.5%, allowing localities to levy the 1% for critical public services.

Virginia Young Democrats Convention

VAYD's convention will be hosted in the City of Alexandria during the weekend of April 8th to 10th, 2022. Our business will be conducted at The Westin Alexandria Old Town and virtually for the purposes of including Young Democrats across our great Commonwealth.

We are conducting this convention in a hybrid manner with a combination of virtual and in-person to ensure the health and safety of our members and our communities during the ongoing pandemic. Those attending in-person will be expected to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a documented exemption in order to participate. We highly encourage those not vaccinated against COVID-19 to participate virtually in this year's convention.

Full information including the schedule and registration, can be found on the Convention website. The deadline to register to attend the convention as a delegate is April 1 at 11:59 pm.

Join us for AYD's Future of Arlington Forum!

This discussion focusing on the future of housing, transit, and schooling in our community will take place in the Central Library Auditorium on Thursday, April 28th at 6pm.
