When they tell you what they’ll do … believe them.

Impeaching President Biden? Shutting down the Janauary 6 Select Committee? Those are the top items on the far-right extremists' agenda...

Dear People For Supporter,

This is a make-or-break year for the future of American democracy, as far-right extremists try to drag us down the slippery slope towards authoritarianism.

As the end of the quarter approaches, we ask for your financial support to help us fight the Far Right, defend democracy, and ensure freedom, equality, opportunity and justice for all.  Please chip in with a generous renewal donation today >>

We wish this was simply a case of alarmism, but we need only look at what far-right leaders have already announced they’re planning to do.

If far-right extremists are able to pick up just a few House seats in November:

  • The Jan 6th select committee will be shut down, likely ending this critical bipartisan avenue for accountability for the seditious conspiracy aimed at overthrowing our government ... and they’re already discussing retaliatory sham investigations into leading Democrats.[1]

  • Yes, they’re also talking about impeaching President Biden. (When this talk comes from far-right Rep. Jim Jordan, who would become chair of the Judiciary Committee – where the impeachment process begins – we have to take it seriously.)[2]

  • Extremists like Reps. Paul Gosar and Marjorie Taylor Greene, who were stripped of committee assignments due to their overt calls for violence against Democrats, will be restored to "better” committees.[3]

The consequences are looking equally dire if the Far Right is able to pick up just one seat in the current 50-50 Senate:

  • Chances of passing meaningful voting and reproductive rights legislation at the federal level will evaporate.[4]

  • A complete halt to confirmation of President Biden’s judicial nominations, from the lower levels all the way up to the Supreme Court.[5]

  • Senator Rick Scott’s tax plan, which would hike taxes on middle- and lower-income families by $100 billion, will become the starting point for future budget negotiations.[6] His proposals would also sunset Medicare and Social Security after four years,[7] and waste billions on the pointless border wall – and even name it after Donald Trump![8]

  • Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin has already announced he’ll be leading the effort to repeal the Affordable Care Act. [9]

If these extremists gain control of Congress, they’re also likely to make gains in state legislatures as well. So we can expect more and sharper attacks on the right to abortion care, book bans and other restrictions on the freedom to learn in our public schools, and all-out assaults on the foundation of our democracy itself – our right to vote in free and fair elections.

Is this the America we want to leave to our kids and grandkids?

Please rush in a donation today to renew your People For membership and help us stop the Far Right’s designs from becoming America’s reality. >>

This fall, we’re planning extensive voter registration and turnout projects to catalyze a movement of voters in key races and nationwide, and save pro-voting rights majorities in both houses of Congress. But we simply can’t do that without your financial support.

So please, if you’re able, renew your People For membership with a donation to support our pro-democracy work today. >>

Thank you in advance for your support, and for everything you do to support freedom, equality, opportunity and justice for all – the American Way.

Sincerely,

The People For Digital Team (Ben, Sarah, Meg, Zach and Will)
