John,

The FDA is preparing to move forward with its bold plan to eliminate menthol cigarettes – products the tobacco industry has used to target and addict Black communities and kids for far too long. To highlight the importance of this plan, we sponsored a Washington Post LIVE event last week. It's now available online:

Guests:

  • Keith Wailoo, PhD – Professor of History and Public Affairs, Princeton University; Author of Pushing Cool: Big Tobacco, Racial Marketing, and the Untold Story of the Menthol Cigarette

  • Georges C. Benjamin, MD – Executive Director, American Public Health Association

Moderator:

  • Paige Winfield Cunningham – Deputy Newsletter Editor, The Washington Post

It's a lively and timely discussion of one of the most significant public health issues we now face. I guarantee you'll learn a lot and feel empowered to take action.

Best,

Laurie Rubiner
Executive Vice President, U.S. Programs

Did you know?

The FDA issued its decision to prohibit menthol cigarettes in response to a citizen petition – filed by the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids and other public health groups – and subsequent lawsuit by our partner organizations.

The FDA's rulemaking process could take months or even years. And we'll have to fight Big Tobacco's legal challenges and disinformation campaigns every step of the way. Help make sure we have the resources to win:
