Dear John,
Sixteen tractor-trailer trucks loaded with 40 tons of out-of-state waste dump into the Juniper Ridge Landfill in Old Town nearly every day of the year.
This loophole in Maine’s waste management laws allows landfilling out-of-state waste, including hazardous construction and demolition debris. As a result, Juniper Ridge Landfill has become a dumping ground for toxic waste, threatening the area’s drinking water supply and sites of historical, cultural, and spiritual significance for the Penobscot Nation.
We have recently learned that corporate interests, who have their eyes set on keeping this loophole intact, are spreading disinformation about LD 1639 – the bill that would protect Maine communities and natural resources by strengthening our waste regulations. And, they are gaining traction with lawmakers.
Votes on this bill in the Maine Legislature are expected soon and your elected officials need to hear from you! Click here [[link removed]] to tell your lawmakers to support LD 1639.

Maine has become a dumping ground for the Northeast. Closing the loophole will protect Maine’s environment and communities.
