** Sockeye Closure as a Mass Care Site

The Sockeye Inn closed as a non-congregate site today at 5 PM, Wednesday 30, 2022

For clients who were staying at the Sockeye:
If anyone left belongings in the building, have them reach out to the ACEH at: 1 (907) 310-1859

ACEH held a virtual press conference this morning at 10 AM, Wednesday 30th, 2022. An update was given on the transition plan with the closure of the Alex, Guesthouse, and Sockeye as mass care sites.

After the briefing, there was time set aside for questions from the press.

Joint Statement From the Bronson Administration and the Anchorage Assembly

The Bronson Administration and the Anchorage Assembly issued the following statement:

“Today, the Anchorage Assembly, in partnership with the Bronson Administration, completed work on a $7 million dollar mass care funding package for the second quarter of 2022. This important milestone marks the beginning of a transition from pandemic-driven mass care to long-term supportive housing that will ultimately place residents on a path to greater independence while continuing to protect our most vulnerable. Mass care operations at the Sullivan Arena and local hotels are expected to conclude by June 30, and operations at the Sockeye Inn will be temporarily suspended on March 31 in preparation for the next phase of care. Rest assured no one in the Sockeye Inn or any of the other hotels will be transitioned to the Sullivan Arena. All current residents are engaged in a client-centered intake process to place them in the best possible environment for their specific needs. More details on the forthcoming transition plan will be made available in the future.”

April 2022 is Second Chance Month

The U.S. Department of Justice's ([link removed]) Office of Justice Programs ([link removed]) , Bureau of Justice Assistance ([link removed]) and Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention ([link removed]) are supporting Second Chance Month to help individuals, communities, and agencies across the country recognize the importance of reentry and their role in supporting safe and successful reentry—building second chances!

The National Reentry Resource Center (NRRC) is hosting Second Chance Month. Together with the American Institutes for Research ([link removed]) , Vera Institute of Justice ([link removed]) , CSG Justice Center ([link removed]) , RTI International ([link removed]) , and more, the NRRC will host resources, videos, podcasts, live learning events and webinars during the month of April to support the justice field and Second Chance Act grantees with their reentry programs.

Events will focus on reentry basics ([link removed]) , education, employment, housing ([link removed]) , behavioral health, family supports, youth and young adults ([link removed]) , and evaluation and sustainability ([link removed]) .

** National Alliance to End Homelessness (NAEH)

President Biden Announces Proposed FY23 Budget

This week, President Biden announced his proposed Fiscal Year 2023 budget ([link removed]) . It includes large increases for homelessness and housing, including a $363 million boost for Homeless Assistance (the largest increase since the program was first ramped up in the early 1990s) and a $4.7 billion increase to the Tenant Based Rental Assistance program.
