Dear Friend,

Thanks for joining us! I’m Eddie Kurtz, the executive director of Courage
Campaign. I want to personally welcome you and let you know more about
what we do and where you fit in.[ [link removed] ][IMG]

Courage Campaign organizes the people of California to demand courage from
our leaders, including elected officials, corporate CEOs, and others with
power and influence. Powered by 1.4 million members, we mobilize online
and offline in our communities to insist our leaders prioritize the
wellbeing of their constituents.

California is the biggest, most diverse state in the nation and the fifth
largest economy in the world. Our country needs California to lead by
example to prove that progressive policy and inclusive democracy work --
and, most importantly, that they make lives better.

The influence California has is not overlooked by corporations who just
last year spent $300 million lobbying on legislation and nearly a half
billion dollars influencing statewide ballot measures. But we have a
secret weapon: your voice. We specialize in people-powered accountability.
Let us show you what we’re up to and how you can join us:

* In 2016, Courage Campaign launched Courage Score to reveal the courage
(or lack thereof) shown by California legislators. It’s the first
progressive scorecard in California politics that tracks legislators’
voting records across a variety of issues.

[ [link removed] ]CourageScore.org continues to send shockwaves through the capitol
each year. As one progressive legislator told the [ [link removed] ]Los Angeles
Times, “For weeks following the launch of Courage Campaign’s report
card, lawmakers were complaining about it. It struck a chord. Some of
my colleagues...weren’t used to being held accountable for their
votes.”(1)

Find your legislator, learn about their voting record, and contact
them at [ [link removed] ]CourageScore.org.

* In 2018, we ran #CaliforniaCounts, a campaign to win back the House by
turning out often overlooked voters in the most vulnerable Republican
districts, such as young voters and voters of color. We joined with
our partners to make over 400,000 calls, send more than 380,000 texts,
and reach over 500,000 Latinx voters through a celebrity robocall. It
was thanks to these courageous voters that Democrats swept all seven
of the targeted seats and won back the House!

We will change the direction our nation is headed by working together. We
must win progressive victories in California to prove to the nation that a
better future is possible.
