The Texas runoff election is less than two months away, and we have a massive opportunity to elect a progressive champion to Congress who will fight for Medicare for All, good paying union jobs, a Green New Deal, and much more.
Jessica Cisneros is running to represent Texas’ 28th district, and in order to win, it will take a mass movement of people volunteering their time.
Jessica was born and raised in Laredo, Texas, right on the border with Mexico. Her parents immigrated to Texas to start a new home for her family. Even as a child growing up, she saw the issues impacting her family and her community. Jessica wanted to be part of solving the problems she saw up close – so she became an immigration and human rights attorney.
While most people in her district are Democrats, Texas’ 28th has been represented by Rep. Henry Cuellar, a Democrat who voted for Trump’s border wall twice, does not support Medicare for All, and was the only Democrat to vote against the PRO Act. He’s been in Congress for 16 years and voted almost 70% of the time with Donald Trump. It’s time for him to go.
In this year’s primary, Jessica came within just a few percentage points of defeating Henry Cuellar, and now the race is going to a May 24th run-off election. Despite being outspent and opposed by the Koch network and major corporate PACs, she nearly pulled off a massive upset. This time she will.
Jessica is running because we need a representative who’ll fight for good paying union jobs, Medicare for All, and a Green New Deal. She’s running because we need to get big money out of politics and stop letting corporate donors stack the deck in D.C. She's been endorsed by Senator Bernie Sanders, Senator Elizabeth Warren, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and many more.
Thank you so much and look forward to having you on the team.
