2022 is going to be a big year for Democrats in the Commonwealth and across the country, and while I’m not on the ballot this year, I wanted to reach out to ask for your support for something extremely important for Virginia Democrats — elections for local office.

Local elections are some of the most important elections we have on the ballot this year. From school board to county board to city council, the Democratic Party of Virginia is working hard to elect more Democrats to local offices in every corner of the Commonwealth. These local leaders do so much to help Virginians thrive and support progress in our communities, so it couldn't be more critical that we support our strong Democrats this year.

I’m not going to be the first person or the last person to tell you that elections in Virginia come down to turnout. In fact, when I was elected to the Richmond City Council back in the 1990s, I won by less than 100 votes.

That’s why the Democratic Party of Virginia is organizing to ensure high voter turnout from our party this year, and it's why they asked me to reach out to you today.
