Various states across the country have taken voter suppression to new levels in an effort to prevent our voices from being heard – voter ID laws, purging voter rolls, restricting ballot drop boxes, refusing to save the Postal Service, and so much more.
Last week, the far right-controlled Florida House passed a voting overhaul bill that would create a new security office to investigate election crimes and increase penalties for violating the state's elections laws — which by design, do not favor the votes of Black Americans. This new bill is a blatant threat to our fundamental right to free and fair elections.
Countless voter suppression bills are being introduced around the country, and Florida's is just the latest. We know all too well that voter suppression has a disproportionate impact on Black voters.
It's no secret that Republicans are working against us — their attacks on our democracy are piling up. Now more than ever, we refuse to stand by as voter suppression runs rampant. Those in power are effectively stripping away critical aspects of our democracy. With the stakes being as high as they are this election year, it's time to take action.
