I’m reaching out on behalf of my friend Abby Finkenauer – I’ll cut right to the chase because I value your time:

There's new polling data in her Iowa Senate race, and Sen. Chuck Grassley is showing signs of vulnerability. He's facing record-high disapproval ratings – and only 27% of likely voters want to send him back to Washington.

So here’s the deal: We need Abby Finkenauer in the U.S. Senate. She can defeat Chuck Grassley. 

Over the past few years, we’ve learned that our democracy is fragile. In the aftermath of Donald Trump and his Big Lie, it’s more important than ever to protect it. We need champions for our democracy in Congress – and with Abby, Iowans would gain a true public servant in the U.S. Senate. I saw how hard she fought for our democracy and for working families during her time in Congress. I know she'll bring that exact same passion and dedication to the Senate.

Abby’s Senate campaign is gaining momentum, but she needs to make a big statement before her FEC end-of-quarter fundraising deadline tomorrow. So I’m asking, will you split a donation between our campaigns right now? We must elect Abby to the Senate and hold on to our Democratic majorities in Congress.

When I served with Abby in the House, I knew from the very start she was there for the right reason: to do the hard work, the critical work – the kind of work that makes a difference.

It may not make headlines, but it improves the lives of the people we represent. It has become rarer and rarer to see these days, but for Abby, public service is personal. She was raised in a union household. She would do anything and everything to better the lives of her community. You see, Abby understands Iowa: where it has been, where it is, and where it will be. 

For her opponent, Chuck Grassley, it’s a different story. He's been in Washington for nearly half a century – and showing up for Iowa's working families seems to be a thing of his past. Instead, he's spent his time defending Donald Trump's lies, endorsing dangerous conspiracy theories, failing to stand up to extreme voter suppression laws, and doing his party's bidding.

It's time for new leadership in Iowa, and Abby is the right person for the job. But Mitch McConnell's allies have millions in the bank to take back the Senate, and you can bet they're going to do everything within their power to defend Sen. Grassley. They know that the path to expanding and protecting our Senate majority runs through Iowa. If Abby Finkenauer wins, Democrats have a chance to hold the U.S. Senate. And that is a big deal.
