Dear Ward 8 Residents:
It has been a trying two years as we navigate our way out of the pandemic. No community felt the impacts of coronavirus more than the residents of Ward 8 and despite it all, we still persevered.
I am pleased to finally present Ward 8 residents with ourprogress report ([link removed]) . Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, we experienced some delays and setbacks, but as the report title indicates, "The Mission Continues."
This report covers a range of work that my office has done from legislation, interactions with the business community, budget investments, community events, and much more. Everything in this report is concrete examples of the work we have done to lessen the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Ward 8 residents from August 2020 to December 2021.
I am excited about the journey ahead. As the Ward 8 Councilmember, I will continue to pursue the mission of serving Ward 8 residents in the best way possible. The progress report ([link removed]) should reach your mailbox soon, but in the meantime, enjoy and share the digital version below.
Regards,
Councilmember Trayon White, Sr.

Earlier this month, the D.C. Office of Tax and Revenue led a 90-minute session including a question and answer portion during the “Community Conversation on Real Property Taxes and Assessments: What You Need to Know.” About 70 homeowners joined a virtual presentation about property tax assessments, billing, the appeal process, and tax relief programs.
In his welcoming remarks, Ward 8 Councilmember Trayon White shared his concern about increasing tax rates.
“One time, I got a tax assessment, and within two years, the taxes on one of my properties went up about 11 percent, and it was about $300.00 [more]. I started thinking, ‘How many residents have an extra $300 to pay for taxes?’” he said.
