It’s Robert. I know we’ve been emailing you a little more than usual about tomorrow’s FEC fundraising deadline, but that’s because it matters.

Tomorrow’s FEC deadline matters not only because we have to legally report our fundraising numbers, but also because what we raise and the supporters behind us will decide the fate of this campaign moving forward.

Running for Congress isn’t easy. But nothing that matters is easy. My mom brought me to America not knowing English, without an education, and without the right immigration status – becoming an American citizen, and being the first member of my family to graduate from college wasn’t easy. Growing up a Latino, gay man wasn’t easy either.

It’s not easy to run a people-powered campaign when you are not accepting corporate PAC or special interest money. But it’s the right thing to do. And your donation can make all the difference.

Right now as Mayor of Long Beach, I’m staying on top of the policies and tasks that make a difference to my constituents. So, fundraising isn’t something I can spend a lot of time doing, and I need to count on my supporters to help.

Winning this election won’t be easy. But we’re doing it the right way, and I’m proud of the campaign we are running together.
