A few months ago, I became the new Executive Director of the Center for Freethought Equality.

And I’m also a mother. A Black woman. And a first-generation American.

It’s deeply disturbing to see how well-organized White Christian Nationalists have become this past year and it’s been horrifying to witness the ferocity at which they’ve targeted school boards and to watch their success in electing evangelical conservatives in states like Virginia. They have been emboldened to make brazenly racist, bigoted, and xenophobic statements in front of thousands at public events being held across the country.

You and I have a duty. When we see injustice in our world, when rights of minorities, women, LGBTQ+, and the nonreligious are trampled, when extremist forces threaten to exclude communities from our political processes, we must act.

It lifts up and amplifies secular voices, who will defend the rights of all people to live free from discrimination. It counters the dangerous and sometimes violent extremist White Christian Nationalist movement from securing more power.
