John,
It’s long past time for a ban on Congressional stock trading.
Here at CREW, we’ve been advocating for that for years. In the last few months, momentum has been building, multiple bills have been introduced in Congress, and we’re closer than ever before to seeing a stock trading ban.
Now we need Congress to act. That’s why this week, CREW and 18 other advocacy groups, including Public Citizen, MoveOn, and Stand Up America, sent a letter to Congress advocating for a strong stock ban—one that includes a ban on stock ownership by members of Congress as well as their spouses and dependent children, and has strong enforcement mechanisms. Read more about our letter here.
Banning Congressional stock trading would help restore trust and integrity to Congress. Americans deserve to know that their representatives are acting in their best interests—not with their own financial interests in mind. We can get there—but we need your help pushing Congress to act. Here are a few ways you can do that:
-
Email your members of Congress in support of a strong Congressional stock trading ban.
- Share with your friends on Twitter, Facebook, or by forwarding this email.
-
Call your members of Congress at 202-224-3121 and ask them to support swift action on a strong and comprehensive Congressional stock trading ban.
In all the years that CREW has been pushing for a ban on Congressional stock trading, we’ve never been this close to success. Working together, I know we can get this passed.
Thank you,
Noah Bookbinder
President, CREW
