| John -- Iowa has a rich history of welcoming immigrants with open arms. Late Republican Governor Robert Ray welcomed Tai Dam refugees from Vietnam, Laos, Burma, Cambodia, and Thailand to Iowa. To those who disagreed with him, he said: “Don’t tell me of your concerns for these people when you have a chance to save their lives. Show me. Don’t tell me how Christian you are. Show me.” Steve King has shown where he stands -- and it's not on the side of our shared values. King has compared immigrants to hunting dogs. He's called Dreamers -- children who were brought to this country through no fault of their own and have since started small businesses, gone to school, and served in our military -- drug mules. And he's questioned the value of minorities entirely. I believe we have a responsibility to keep our country's promise to Dreamers and immigrant families. I will continue to stand up to Steve King or anyone else who uses hate and xenophobia in an attempt to divide neighbors and friends. Will you stand with me and sign the petition calling on the Senate to pass the Dream and Promise Act? It’s not right that the fate of hundreds of thousands of immigrants is in the hands of the Supreme Court. We made a promise -- and we must uphold it. Our immigration system should match who we are: it should reflect our values and enable our country to reach its greatest economic heights. Immigrants don’t hold us back; they empower us.
