Dear John,
In the spring of 2020, over 60 Maine organizations and individuals came together to reimagine our systems and policies in light of COVID-19 and the inequities it laid bare. Many of us contributed our expertise, insights, and perspectives to build a Vision for an Equitable Maine (VEM).
Yesterday we joined dozens of leaders from those diverse organizations in Augusta to call on legislators to pass priority bills that will address systemic inequities in Maine.
Here’s a photo of the VEM groups gathered outside of the State House in Augusta yesterday.

The Vision for an Equitable Maine priority bills will:
*
Restore
the
Wabanaki
tribes’
inherent
rights
to
self-govern;
*
Ensure
everyone
has
access
to
healthcare
regardless
of
their
immigration
status;
*
Increase
affordable
housing
and
compact
development;
and
*
Generate
better
data
so
that
Maine
legislators
can
make
more
equitable
decisions.
Wabanaki self-governance, healthcare, and affordable housing are good for people and our planet. These bills help create resilient communities, which is at the heart of tackling the climate crisis.
There are only a few weeks remaining in the 130th Legislature and, unfortunately , most of these bills need your help. Join us in urging Maine’s lawmakers to address systemic inequities.
