Erica Smith in North Carolina’s 1st District.
For years, Erica has represented a rural district in the North Carolina Senate, fighting Republican attempts to ban abortion and suppress the vote. Now, she’s running to defend our House majority by holding a MUST-WIN open Democratic seat.
Erica knows that her community, and rural communities writ large, deserve more than a dollar store economy and GoFundMe healthcare.
She’s had firsthand experience watching rural downtowns get shattered by corporate consumerism and, even with “good” employer-based healthcare, worked two jobs just to afford critical health support for her son.
In Congress, Erica will stand up for rural, local economies, stop income inequality, and demand Medicare for All because access to healthcare does not matter if you can’t afford it.
Not only will she fight for a Green New Deal, she will push for a Blue New Deal to protect our fragile oceans as well.
Erica knows that the only way to do right by the folks in her community is to run a fully people-powered campaign. She is the only candidate in this race who has pledged to refuse corporate PAC and fossil fuel money because she believes that lobbyists shouldn’t be the only ones at the table.
