Hi John, Ashley here! From working as an organizer on Lauren’s first campaign, to serving as her Deputy Campaign Manager today, I’ve seen firsthand how hard Lauren fights for the people of Illinois and the incredible impact her work has had on our community. But it’s no secret we’ve faced some tough races along the way — let me bring you up to speed:
In 2018, Lauren defeated a four-term Republican incumbent and made history by becoming the youngest Black woman ever elected to serve in Congress. Two years later, our campaign faced an avalanche of right-wing attacks and outside spending — but we persevered, winning one of the closest races in the nation by just 5,374 votes.
This year, we’re in for another tough race. The National Republican Congressional Committee has named Lauren a top target and six right-wing opponents have jumped in this race — including a 2020 election conspiracy theorist and an anti-vax extremist.
The attacks have already begun to roll in. After Lauren filed for reelection, Republicans challenged the validity of our paperwork last week in an attempt to kick her off the ballot.
John, we’ve got our work cut out for us. It’ll take a whole lot of resources to cut through the noise of right-wing attacks and share Lauren’s strong record in Congress with voters across the district. But I’ve seen what this incredible team is capable of, and together, I know we have what it takes to make history again.
Will you pitch in to support Lauren’s reelection campaign and help us hit our first end-of-quarter goal of the year? Anything you can spare before the deadline expires on Thursday would mean a lot to Lauren and our entire campaign.
