** South Carolina legislature passes Convention of States Resolution!
------------------------------------------------------------
We have amazing news!
The South Carolina House of Representatives just voted 64-48 to pass the Convention of States Resolution, making the Palmetto State legislature the 19th to call for a Convention of States to end federal overreach!
The South Carolina Senate voted on March 10 to pass the Convention of States Resolution, and the House voted last year to do the same. But the Senate removed a sunset clause that the House had included. Today’s vote in the South Carolina House was to concur in that change. It ensures that the Resolution will continue to be valid until the required 34 states have passed similar resolutions, thus triggering the Convention.
We couldn’t be more proud of our team in South Carolina. They’ve worked tirelessly over the last several years to reach this milestone, and they’re a testament to the hard work and patriotism of Convention of States volunteers.
They’ve packed hearing rooms. They’ve organized capitol rallies. They’ve called, emailed, and met with their legislators, and they’ve done it all while facing some serious opposition. But they never gave up! They continued to push for our Resolution’s passage, and their victory today shows what can happen when We the People stand up and demand our liberty.
We also couldn’t have accomplished this historic victory without our amazing legislative sponsors. South Carolina Representative Bill Taylor was the nation’s first legislator to file the Convention of States Resolution back in 2013. His faithful service to the Article V movement is inspiring, and it proves that we still have true statesmen among our state representatives.
While Article V does not require applications to be signed by the governor, our Resolution will now head to Governor Henry McMaster’s desk anyway, due to an unusual procedure in South Carolina. Although it is extra-constitutional, the state does require the governor’s signature for Article V resolutions.
This won’t be a problem. Governor Henry McMaster has already expressed his support, and he may even hold a signing ceremony so that our incredible grassroots and legislative sponsors can receive the recognition they deserve.
Great job, South Carolina!
Sincerely,
The Convention of States Team
P.S. At least two other states are on the cusp of passing the Convention of States Resolution. Will you join us and help us get above the 20-state mark? ([link removed]) We wouldn't be here without patriots like you, and we know we can count on your support.
