The defense
budget has increased TWICE in the last few months and now there could be
yet another increase. Here’s what has happened.

Last year, Congress passed a $770 billion military budget. That was even
higher than Trump’s last defense spending bill. I fought for a 10 percent
cut in military spending from the year before. Instead, Congress wanted
more giveaways to private defense contractors and military waste.

A few weeks ago, Congress allocated even MORE money to a bloated military
budget. I voted No.

Now, this from just yesterday in Politico:

[ [link removed] ]Politico headline reads Biden requests $813 Billion for national
defense

$813,000,000,000 would be a significant increase over the current defense
budget and tens of billions more than Trump’s last defense budget. It’s
unconscionable spending. It’s a giveaway to
defense corporations. And it’s wrong.

The Pentagon doesn't need this money — working people who can't afford
child care, housing, and health care do.

[ [link removed] ]Will you fuel my continued fight to cut defense spending by 10 percent
and invest in the people? Chip in $3 now to help me hit my
end-of-quarter fundraising goal, so our fight remains strong against
wasteful military spending that ONLY benefits private defense contractors.

So many lawmakers who balked at Build Back Better will vote for massive
defense spending without a thought. And if this defense budget passes, it
will set us on a path to spend at least $8 trillion on the Pentagon over
the next decade. Build Back Better would have cost us trillions less AND
would have invested in health care, education, affordable housing,
childcare, paid sick and family leave, fighting the climate crisis, and so
much more.

Congress could be doing the work of guaranteeing health care for everyone
in this country, it could be ensuring workers get a raise and time off,
and it could be passing transformative legislation to address the climate
crisis. Those are the things I’m fighting for, because delivering for the
people, our communities, and our planet is my job.

We cannot normalize massive defense budget increases. We cannot allow
endless defense spending and giveaways to private defense contractors come
before investments in the people.

[ [link removed] ]Support my fight to deliver for our communities, our people, and our
planet with a $3 contribution to my campaign today. We must
ensure Congress is working for the people, not defense corporations.

In solidarity,

Pramila
