Friend,
Well, I have some good news and some bad news.
The good news is the Supreme Court ruled on Thursday to block the
Trump Administration’s inclusion of a citizenship question on the 2020
census. But here’s the bad news: They also ruled that federal courts
can’t intervene to stop extreme partisan gerrymandering. This
is an attack on our voting rights, and there’s only one party in
Congress willing to fight back -- but we’ll need all the support we
can get heading into
2020.
Here's the one
thing you need to know about partisan gerrymandering: Republicans
can’t win without it. Their policies are so deeply unpopular that the
only way they can get elected is by handpicking their voters and
silencing the majority -- but we won’t be
quiet. Only
voters like you have the power to end gerrymandering by getting
involved today.
But here’s the second
takeaway from Thursday’s ruling: Defeating Trump won’t be enough to
save our democracy. We need to win the
Senate, defend the House seats we won in 2018, and sweep down-ballot
elections -- particularly races for state legislatures -- if there’s
any hope of restoring power to the people. Will
you donate $100, $50, or $25 before Sunday’s fundraising deadline so
that we have the resources to win everywhere in
2020?
Best, Ted
