John,
Senators just introduced a bill on facial recognition.1,2 And honestly, it’s a joke.
This bill, which claims to limit facial recognition, basically authorizes almost every existing use of facial recognition surveillance. It’s worse than doing nothing. We have to kill this bill.
Donate $5 right now to help kill this bad facial recognition surveillance bill!

It’s good to see that Congress wants to address this issue, but this bill contains gaping loopholes that authorize government and law enforcement to deploy facial recognition surveillance in all kinds of abusive ways.
What we need legislation that bans all law enforcement use of facial recognition, and strictly limits its use by private individuals and corporations. Can you chip in to oppose the bad bill and call on Congress to pass legislation to ban facial recognition instead?
Last week we sent a team out to run live facial recognition surveillance in the halls of Congress, Capitol Hill, and downtown D.C. to try to find Members of Congress, journalists, lobbyists, and to keep track of how many total people we scanned in the process.3,4
Our goal was to show that it’s terrifyingly easy and legal for anyone—a government agent, a corporation, or just a creepy stalker—to conduct biometric monitoring and violate basic rights at a massive scale.
We conducted almost 14,000 face scans, and we believe this should be illegal. We shouldn’t have been able to do this, and the government should not be able to do this. We need a ban on this dangerous technology, not weak legislation that allows it to continue to spread.
Make a quick donation to help fight this terrible bill that will let facial recognition spread and put our privacy and our safety in danger.
Together,
Caitlin at Fight for the Future
